Useful advises for those who just got their degree in Hungary

Everybody reaches the point in his life when he or she has to find a job. According to UniPécs Magazine, some of us start to work for everyday living right after the secondary school. Others decide to stay in school for a few more years. There are different types of university students: there are young adults who do not know, even after the end of the first year, if they are really at the right place, and then there are those lucky ones who know what they want to do for the rest of their lives. After all, there is one thing which is clear, after finishing university the previous students enter the labour market to try themselves in that, so called, capital lettered LIFE. To be more successful on the way, to find the most suitable job we asked a head-hunter for some advice.

What does it actually mean to be a man-hunter? What is your job exactly?

On the Hungarian market, the recruiter establishments, the agencies and the man-hunter firms are all called head-hunter organisations in the vulgar-tongue, but, to be honest, there are some major differences between them. Man-hunting is the process through which we find the highly-qualified higher-up person, who also speaks several foreign languages, for a particular job. This method can also be called direct search, because the man-hunter offers the position for the picked one in a direct way. Usually, we look for someone who already has enough experience in a quite similar position.

Which is the section that needs the most graduated manpower? What professions can you say that surely provide job for beginners as well?

Every segment needs workers with a degree, it is only periodic that there is a shortage in other areas. Nowadays, IT and engineering suffer from the lack of professionals. These areas are short of thousands of well-qualified workers. The main reasons are that more and more people choose working abroad while workplaces want even more technical experience.

What are the main focuses in the decision-making of employers who choose between several candidates?

The common process is that they look at the competences of all their candidates, this is how they start selecting from the CVs. If we talk about an entrant, the most important aspects are the place and the position in which he spent his trainee period, the command of language, the public work at the university he attended to and, last but not least, they also take into account where he got his degree from.

What is the difference between degrees?

The main question tends to be which institution the education went down in. There are always a few university departments that are highly acknowledged compared to the other ones. This is mainly important when one tries to apply for the first job after university, it does not mean a lot later on, because employers pay more attention to working experience. Let’s give an example: when somebody is working in the financial section for a decade, it does not really matter where he graduated from. It is much more important which firm he got that 10 year experience at. So we could speculate on which university the best could be, but it will not be the deciding point after a while, and when we are talking about areas where people are really needed, it will not count at all which university he went to.
